Shamrocks and Movie Flops

Okay, so it's not an Indian holiday that graces the blog today, and I'm not Irish, but I've been celebrating every year since I was 18 years old, so I thought I would quickly wish everyone else out there a Happy St. Patrick's Day. For the first time in 17 years I am stuck at home with the kids while my husband works, not even a babysitter for when he gets home, and so the extent of my celebrating is done right here and now. Boo hoo!

May you always have
Walls for the winds,
A roof for the rain,
Tea beside the fire,
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all your heart might desire!

And now for some Bollywood...

I haven't been able to get much time lately for any movie watching (I blame twitter!), but I did manage to get through a couple, and I do mean get through. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and De Dana Dan made their way onto the dvd player, but neither movie was able to hold my attention. Actually, if you asked me, I'd be hard pressed to remember what APKGK is even about. All I pretty much recall is the movie has tons of songs (I did actually really enjoy Prem Ki Naiya - it's totally fun!)

I was excited to watch De Dana Dan, just because I love the music! So energetic and fun, I thought how can the movie be anything but just that. Well, it certainly tries to be funny, with hijinx galore, but it just feels so forced that I barely so much as even chuckled throughout. At the core, a good story line, but it loses focus half way, and I found that there were way too many characters to try and follow. I lost interest about half way through. Too bad.

I dare anyone to listen to this and not want to dance!

The common link: Katrina Kaif. She's obviously a beautiful woman (there are many polls that prove people adore her look), but I just can't seen to warm up to her acting. She doesn't ever leave much of an impression on me and I keep thinking maybe this movie will be the one where she impresses me, but so far I haven't discovered that film. I'm almost desperate to watch a really interesting, get yourself lost in, kind of movie. With over 30 or so movies to choose from I keep picking the wrong ones. Maybe I should just put on Dev.D already.

Is anyone else looking forward to Housefull. I know, I know. How can I say I want to watch some quality film, and then follow that with a blurb about Housefull, but it has got a fantastic cast, music by my favorite's Shankar-Eshaan-Loy, and Akshay's nerdy avatar. With only 3 other movies under his belt, we'll see if Sajid Khan can give us a movie that makes us laugh instead of cringe.

Yeah.... I loved Ajab Prem Ki and thought De Dana Dan was hilarious. ;D

I'm totally looking forward to Housefull, though, should be a Laff Riot!

Have you seen Namastey London? Kat is wonderful in it!

I knew you loved Ajab Prem. I remember seeing it on your blog as a must see. I don't know why I have such a hard time with movies like these. I love comedy and enjoy light entertainment.

Housefull looks very promising. Hopefully it will elavate the genre for me!

I tried watching Namastey London over a year ago and couldn't get into it. Maybe I just have an aversion to Katrina. However, I recently bought a copy and wanted to give it another try.

oh, Katrina...she's so pretty, but so blah! Ruins every single movie for me.

Ani - I know right! I don't know why I can't warm up to her. I don't dislike her, she just hasn't done anything that blows me away. I used to feel the same way about Kareena Kapoor, but now I actually look forward to watching her. I put on Blue the other day and when Katrina came on in her cameo, all I could think was REALLY?

Jules - Yay! Thanks for not letting me break my tradition! And it was sooooo good!

We could definitely do a movie this weekend. Either night works for me actually, so whatever you want.

Ajab Prem... or "the strange story of a wonderful love" was plenty strange, but there was very little that was wonderful about it! I just saw it last month, and I've already forgotten everything about it! Have you seen Wake Up Sid yet? Or Rocket Singh? They're the only two good ones (among the new films) I've seen recently.

I agree with what you said about Kat, she's pretty and charming at times but never seems to go the whole hog and ACT! I don't doubt she tries, maybe it just doesn't work for her...

APKGK worked ok the first time round but I hated the second time. I haven't approached De Dhana Dan and I'll probably leave things that way, but I want to see how Housefull tackles to the controversial topic of polygamy...

I will say that DDD was way funnier in the theater..I did end up buying it and it got just a little less funny watching it at home...but I still like it...and APKGK ...I LOVED it!! even with their horrible stuttering...the music was fantastic...And i'm super looking forward to watching Housefull...I really like that sleeping song...

bollyviewer - I really enjoyed Wake Up, Sid and LOVE the soundtrack. Very current and youthful, which is exactly how I found the film (and for the first time really liked Ranbir). I have Rocket Singh but haven't watched yet. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot lately that's really thrilling me. Must need more golden oldies!

MsBlogger - There were moments in DDD that I liked, but I doubt I will ever watch it again. I'm really hopeful for Housefull, let's just hope the story is witty instead of stupid.

Tady Rox! - I think movie experiences are genually amplified when you see it on the big screen, plus you have all those people laughing so you get caught up in the experience. There's rarely a movie I see in the theatre that leaves me feeling disappointed.

It seems APKGK is split down the middle.

I'm hoping Housefull will be a home run, despite Jiah Khan (who I seem to have a strange dislike for despite hardly seeing her in anything). But Aksay, Boman, Arun, Lara, really, how could you go wrong!?

Yes, I want it to really make me laugh...

As you said to Tady Rox! Films always seem so much more enjoyable at the theatre, definitely noticed it myself

That's probably the problem with a lot of the comedies I watch. I've only seen 4 movies in the theatre, and none of them were comedies. Just can't bring myself to drive 3 hours for something I only kind of want to see.
