Top 5 Thursday - Come take me away, please!

Our first Top 5 Thursday on twitter was dedicated to those men/women that you would have a free pass with if they ever managed to cross your path. You know, those ones that get you so hot and bothered that you search out their pictures online, watch their movies and tv shows insistently and overall drive your husband/boyfriend/significant other crazy with your obsession. I've kept a list in my head probably since puberty set in, and it has changed as I've become more mature (in age only!) and have discovered new *ahem* talent, but one thing stays consistent and that's that I definitely have a "type" of man I find irresistible. See if you can figure it out by the end.

Without further ado, the 5 men who succeed in taking my breath away....

#5 Javier Bardem

I just recently saw Vicky Christina Barcelona and was instantly smitten with Javier's charisma and presence in the film. Definitely the film presented him in a very sexy way (who wouldn't want to be swept up in a hot steamy weekend with a handsome stranger in Spain!?). That being said, I might have to avoid No Country For Old Men, as I'm sure it will totally ruin the fantasy! If there's one thing Javier can do it's make me curious about Spanish cinema, so if anyone out there knows of some good titles, let me know!

#4 Ewan McGregor

What can I say about the man who's been on my list the longest? He's insanely gorgeous, with those blue/green eyes, that Scottish accent, and I do know what's under that kilt! To me, he's the definition of a true actor, one that follows his heart rather than a paycheque, and has been successful in theatre as well as film, even shooting his own documentaries. His filmography consists of everything from commercial blockbusters to arthouse film to indie productions. He's an actor that refuses to be typecast, and actually turned down an offer to play James Bond in Casino Royale for that very reason (aak! I would have LOVED that!). Some of my favorites are Little Voice, Brassed Off, Moulin Rouge, Trainspotting and of course Star Wars. Plus I love that he's one of the few actors that is not afraid to take on alternative roles. I'm really looking forward to seeing him and Jim Carrey in I Love You, Phillip Morris.

#3 Arshad Warsi

I've always been a fan of Arshad's, but sometimes there's one movie that makes you just sit straight up and take notice of someone in "that" way, and that's what happened to me. Ishqiya was definitely a turning point in his career, and I think we'll really start to see what he's capable of in the near future. I think Arshad's got that type of sex appeal that appeals to the bad girl in us. He's potently masculine, can really act like nobody's business, is funny as hell and is a trained dancer. What more could you ask for?

I hate to be redundant, and I know I've posted this song before, but I just absolutely adore it to pieces so here it is again!

#2 Gerard Butler

Okay, so I could also have a thing for the Scots, I admit it, and he may be extremely cocky, so I've heard, but that doesn't take away from how amazing I think he is. Gerry comes across, to me, as a real laid back kind of guy, one that's not afraid to throw back a pint and get down on the dance floor. He first wowed me with his mysterious dark take on the Phantom (I was even impressed with his singing), then, even though I never actually watched 300 (tried to, but for some reason just couldn't get through it), the effort he put towards his body did not go unnoticed! His movies are hit and miss with me but he is one of those actors that I will watch even if it's not a genre I particularly enjoy, and I could listen to that accent as it crookedly flows out of that lovely mouth for hours!

Check out this hilarious Japanese interview I found! Complete with a language lesson. So funny!

#1 Shah Rukh Khan

I don't know what to say about Shah Rukh that I haven't said a thousand times already. He is THE perfect package to me. Smart, sexy as all hell, completely talented, a good husband and a great father. I would go across the universe and back for him and his films are always go to's if I need cheering up, need to dance, need to get "in the mood". ha ha. Seriously, I don't see any man ever bumping him from my #1 spot. I am truly a gone soul.

Here's a clip from the London premiere of Raavan

So those are my dream men. Did you figure out the common links? Let me know who you'd drop everything for.

Mmmm Javier. Drool. I might eventually go see that wretched looking "Eat Pray Love" just for him.

My #1 would be James McAvoy. I'd do anything for that man. Followed closely by Abhishek and Abhay Deol. Delicious, all of them.

Oooh, I didn't know Javier was in Eat, Pray, Love. I also might have to venture to the theatre to see it.

I have never seen an Abhey Deol film, though I have several of them.

I like James McAvory, at least he was good in Penelope and Wanted. Gotta love the Irish lads!

Ah but James is Scottish! Which makes him uber sexy. :)

(Check him out in Atonement or The Last King of Scotland to get the hot smoldering effect.)

Scottish!!! I wonder why I thought he was Irish. Oh, those Scottish laddies! They sure grow them nice there!

  6. Bombay Talkies says:
    June 18, 2010 at 7:18 PM

It's because he never gets to use his real accent! For some reason directors are having him cover up that beautiful beautiful brogue.

Oh man, can you imagine him in a room with Ewan and Gerard? I'd die of delight.

I'm this close to declaring Scotland the center of Bollywood and moving there to, erm, cover it. Shahid Kapoor's there right now! It's perfect. Maybe they'll hold IIFA in Edinburgh in the near future. I'd go...and never come back. :)

Well, that's the price they pay for being Hollywood actors.

I've always wanted to go to Scotland. Ireland, Scotland, Whales, the whole area. I think if IIFA went there I would have to join you!

Thank you and yes he did! What a silly question!!! :)

  10. triShie says:
    June 19, 2010 at 4:21 PM

Oooo!!! Ooo!! SO glad we're allowed more than one!! :D like yourself, my obsessions have changed through time..but the longest for me HAS to be Brendan Fraser and in Bollywood, it's none other than Aamir Khan! :) :)

  11. Jules says:
    June 19, 2010 at 4:37 PM

Dark hair, dark eyes, and dark skin.. or at the very least, all of these men are foreign from where you live.. so those are the attractions. :)

I don't think I have a type... except 10 or more years older! LOL

  12. Shellie says:
    June 20, 2010 at 8:16 AM

@triShie - Of course, there's always more than one! I liked Brendan in the Mummy movies - that's probably the cosest I've come to thinking of him as sexy.

Now, I'm really glad I sent you that link to Lagaan - I think Aamir's really nice to look at in it - probably more so than any of his other films. And, now I get why Ghajini hooked you! All it takes is one actor in a great film to do it!

@Jules - Of course you know it, that's a given. I don't actually believe that you only like the older men, either. I think I would see Hrithik on your list (as well as two on mine, na?)

  13. triShie says:
    June 20, 2010 at 9:32 AM

LOL!!...i love men who can laugh at themselves, but still keep a good head on their shoulders :)

interestingly enough, i wasn't hooked on Aamir while watching Ghajini. yes, his acting skills i noticed but the music and storyline got to me first. till a friend told me Sanjay was "Aamir Khan" and i got to reading more on him.. and "WOW!" was the start! he looks hot as Sanjay and Ram in TZP!

    ps: do you tweet? :)

  14. Shellie says:
    June 20, 2010 at 2:04 PM

I thought he was adorably intense in TZP. Lots of friends think don't agree.

I absolutely tweet. You can find me as vox23. There's quite a group of bolly bloggers on twitter as well. Have a look at who I follow - thebollywoodfan is there too.

Gerard...puke again..man for some one that love indian ways and means you'd think you would have more.

  16. Shellie says:
    June 20, 2010 at 5:43 PM

Well, anon, I celebrate diversity, and my love of Indian men and Indian culture doesn't define me 100%.

It's too bad that you feel the need to make such derogatory comments about the Scottish. I hope you don't ever have to face such comments targeted towards you.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog and your picks were fantastic. There is something about them Scottish men, have not quite figured it out. I like Craig Ferguson too. But anyway, love all your picks. Arshad I liked better only after I saw Kabul Express. Found him sexier than John Abraham. Ha! Bardem is sexy as hell, isn't he? Wow. Anyway if I could add one more it would be Aamir Khan. Did not care for him in Ghanjini but loved him in Fanaa, Lagaan, Like Stars On Earth. And SRK, well he's my number one too. Enjoyed the read. Thank you! You have good taste.

no one else could've portrayed Ram better than AK!! :) ...will look for you on twitter!

@imkfj - Namaste and welcome to my little corner of blogland. I also really love Craig Ferguson and think he is funny as hell! He is in a fantastic little movie called Born Romantic which I adored (incidentally Jimmy Mistry is also in it so it still have a little bit of Indian flavor).

I thought Arshad was fantastic in Kabul Express and agree that he was way sexier than long haired John. I never found Aamir sexy at all until one moment in Dil Chaata Hai towards the end when he stands up for Preity's character. Then saw a pictoral spread in Filmfare that was really flattering to him. Looks like you and triShie share some serious Aamir love!

    Thanks for stopping by!

Yup... Hrithik would be on my list, as well as Shah (of course) and Gerard. Yummers!! You're right.. age doesn't define it for me either. Foreign.. maybe... but then again...

Hmmm... HELP ME FIND MY TYPE! LMAO!!

  23. Anishok says:
    June 20, 2010 at 10:07 PM

Oh wow! What a list! :D
And it works out fine - we'd only have to share the affections of No.1.
My other four would be: James Marsters (first celeb crush EVER), Ian Sommerhalder (those blue eyes), Neil Patrick Harris (oh, so what, that he's gay? :P) and a young Denis Leary (weird pick, I know).

  24. Shellie says:
    June 20, 2010 at 10:22 PM

@Jules - Yup. I know you so well!!! I think it's the accents that do it for me. Why else would they all be from the other side of the world? Interesting.

@anishok - I'm glad there wouldn't be too much fighting going on with us. I have said before that I'm willing to share Shah! Mannat's big!

You have some very interesting choices there. I also love James Marsters, but for me I think it was strictly a crush on Spike, because his other roles haven't done it for me.

I didn't know who Ian Sommerhalder was so had to do a quick check. Pretty handsome. I LOVE Neil!!! I think he is fantastically awesome. Did you just die when he was on Glee. I find it hard to believe he's gay, because he's so terrific at playing Barney! And who hasn't been in love with a gay man anyhow! (not me. *wink wink*)

Dennis Leary is not someone I would have imagined showing up here. However, that being said, he is probably the most serious funnyman I've seen, and I like that he can do drama too. My husband really likes him.

Number One has got to be Akshay Kumar...everything about him screams SEX(Y)!!! ...followed very closely by Shahrukh and Abhay Deol...and Ranbir...sigh...now on the Hollywood side I would have James Franco...and yes def. Ewan {sigh!!!}....and my soul mate Daniel Radcliffe!!!

  26. Shellie says:
    June 21, 2010 at 7:27 AM

I totally see Akshay's appeal. I like his look though more than his acting (so far anyway). Love James Franco. Did you see him on Saturday Night Live? He was so funny - totally made fun of himself. It was great. I don't think I could ever see Daniel Radcliffe as a sex symbol - it most likely is a generation gap thing. Plus, he's awfully short, but more power to you!!!

Yes ma'am, but Shahid in his Kaminey avatar (I mean, Charlie) far more than Shahid in his Ishq Vishk skinniness. Jab We Met was pretty good on the looks front, too. :-)

  31. Shellie says:

Shahid has certainly filled out his manly jeans so to speak (and I don't mean that way either). He is much more handsome now I think than his early days for sure. I thought he was very sexy in CPD. Haven't been able to watch Kaminey yet, but the 5 o'clock shadow works for him too.

Sorry it took so long to respond!
